Demo Reel Update, Video List Update, and more

It’s been a while since I updated my video list tab, so I updated it with all the films and visual effect videos that I made in the end of 2012 and beginning of 2013. Lots of gems both good and bad, and a lot of stuff that has been unlisted on my youtube channel. I also uploaded and posted a demo reel from 2012 to 2013 that I made for a class at the bottom of this blog post.

I also would like to apologize that I haven’t been true to my audience. I know that many of you have subscribed to my channel and website thinking that you were going to be seeing a load of amazing visual effects and be able to learn how to do them. I’m greatly sorry for my YouTube leave of absence. A new school year is upon me and I have been granted a very special opportunity again to reignite the flame and blow the minds that have watched my videos. Stay tuned because there’s some good stuff in store.

Meeting with Dave Dugdale

A couple of weeks ago I sent Dave Dugdale, a fellow dslr video user, an e-mail asking if he needed any help with some After Effects work. I was traveling to Pagosa Springs, Colorado for some video work and was going to be passing by his town. He e-mailed me back saying he’d love some help trying to simulate some of the effects in Deep Green Sea‘s video called The Carpenter. I created a few effects, met up with Dave at a Starbucks and gave him a little 1 on 1 instructions on how to make the tracked detail effect. Unfortunately the video we recorded in Starbucks had awful audio so I remade the screen captured tutorial and sent it over to Dave. You can see the video here:

Edit: There was a little negative response from a few people. Saying that the workflow was a little inefficient. I didn’t pre-compose my elements in the video. When Dave and I actually sat down and I precomposed it, the precomposed elements lost quality and instead of wasting Dave’s time trying to figure it out we just parented the layers instead. I should have included something in the video but I didn’t. Oh well.. Haters gonna hate. What are you going to do. I was just happy to meet Dave and let him know how grateful I was for his videos. I’m glad I was able to help him.

NEW VIDEO: Canon Rebel T3i(600D) Twixtor Slow Motion Test 1

First real special effects test with my new Canon Rebel T3i(600D). Just messing with Twixtor and a few new color correction styles. Probably won’t use them much in the future but I wanted to try out a new look. The quality in this video is not the best. The focus is off a little bit and you sadly can’t record 1920×1080 in 60fps so I had to bump it down to 720p.
